My 2006 has a bad crankshaft position sensor. Is this something I can replace in my driveway or does it need to go to the dealer ? Anyone done this repair ?

How do you know for sure the sensor is actually bad? There's not really much in them that goes bad so if you only had a CEL with a code thrown once or twice that likely isn't the real underlying problem.
I will do as suggested : remove sensor, clean it, check wiring. I just wanted to know if it is something that could be done in the driveway. As you said, the sensor itself may not be bad, but I am getting symptoms (loss of power, no tach, acceleration stumble, engine knock) that are a result of bad sensor performance. Thanks for the replies.
