Default Oil Leak

I decided to get an oil leak fixed on my C6. It requires an extensive amount of work. Two mechanics are working on my car now. Estimated time 5 to 6 hours.

Dang! They put the hoist lift arms under floor boards. That is bad. Not the proper lifting areas.

They didn't. There's a gap between the lift pads and the bottom of the car. The car is resting on pucks supported by the tops of the lift arms.

They used pucks when lifting the car. They are not under the floor boards. They were extremely careful with my car, and showed me every thing they did.

Thank you for clarifying. Good to hear. Where is the oil leaking from?

And another question also. How are they supporting the engine? Is the torque tube strong enough for that?

I can’t give you an answer to your question, but the mechanic I used is an experienced Corvette mechanic. There were many Corvettes in his shop, so he knows what he is doing. I will not let anyone other than him work on my car.

it should be noted, he had every tool available when he worked on my car. He did not have to search his shop for the right wrench or socket. He had a partner who was his son, and both of them worked in tandem to do the repair. Every bolt was torqued to specification and a redline was put on every bolt to show him in the future if a bolt moved. He cleaned everything under my car, and the job was professionally done.

I am very Happy with his work

Man if you look closely i think the oil leak was from your oil filter. Wow, that is a whole lot of work to change an oil filter.

I like how they put cardboard to protect the cooler.

Was it the front seal leaking? I may have a rear main seal leak on mine.

It was leaking around the pan gasket. You could see the oil all over the pan. If your car is leaking from the rear main seal it is a big job. The mechanic told me it could take over 10 hours to fix.

Interesting. I thought oil pan gasket can be changed just by lowering the front cradle, rather than completely taking it out and the whole front suspension?

I have been getting several messages that he put the hoist lifts arms under the floor boards. I can see why people think this. If you can enlarge the picture you can see black pucks on the yellow hoist arms about 6-8 inch in, that are directly under my red lift pucks which are installed on the car. These pucks are positioned at the 4 proper lift points.. That is how the car was lifted correctly.

Look closely at the picture. The end of the yellow hoist posts (round black puck) are not touching the floor boards.

Read my post about the new type of rear main seal.

I had a small oil leak on my car, which turned out to be sourced from the front main seal and the rear main seal. When my mechanic did the rear main seal, he took the opportunity to change the clutch, I figure it was better to change it then that to do all that work again the future. I had to get a new Camshaft last September, now it turns out I need a new Harmonic Balancer, it will be my third. I should have had the Harmonic Balancer changed when the Camshaft was changed. :-( Someone else other than my usual mechanic did the camshaft job.

I had to change the first Harmonic Balancer at 28,000 miles under warranty. Then at about 80,000 when the Front Main Seal was replaced.

I've had some other big repairs, still No Regrets. Love my C6! If I get a C8, I'm going to have it warrantied all the time, not just with the first extended warranty. Some extended warranties I've read the contract for don't cover small oil leaks. I had GM Protection Plan after the original warranty, it was good I had it.

I'm giving up on the GM Harmonic Balancer, it seems to be discontinued according to a GM Parts Direct online catalog. I'm thinking of trying the one from Summit Racing. According to C&S Corvettes out of Sarasota Florida, it's a good choice.
