Default Do I need to replace my HB?

This HB from my '07 M6 base is definitely wobbling, but how bad is it? It looks worse to me in person than in this video. Car only has 16,400 miles and I've had it for all of 2 months...*****. And we just got a $3,400 repair bill on my wife's old Honda Pilot...double *****. (Probably shouldn't fix the Honda, but, ya know...replacement cost, and sentimental value to her.)

thanks...msm07c6

Its probably alright for awhile, but plan on replacing it for sure. It will be be "ok" for awhile...its not awful. Is it making chirping sounds too? If you have any future mods planned like a cam or supercharger, try to do it at the same time. Same labor..pay only once.

I would say any wobbling is bad. I would not drive it until this can be fixed.

Sorry, should have mentioned I’m not planning on power adds. I may well regret saying that in the future, but coming from a long line of imports with 4s and 6s, this thing has plenty of power for me and I freaking love it. I do plan on an MGW shifter and some other interior stuff, but would rather keep the powertrain stock.

FWIW, a local-ish shop told me this morning they typically replace with AC Delco HBs...I’ve asked if they’d put their labor into an aftermarket HB instead. I’ve read enough to know OEM is NOT an option in this case!

I agree it is not awful. Appears to have plenty of space between the HB & steering shaft, so separation isn't apparent. The tell-tale belt chirp will indicate that the time is near to consider the replacement. I have heard that the GM production HBs have been redesigned, but I just have no faith in them as a replacement.

thanks for the input, Gary. I was wondering if the shop I mentioned was referring to a revised/redesigned part number, but I still agree prevailing wisdom is to go aftermarket. That shop said they’ve seen balance issues with aftermarket HBs too, and I’m sure there are some issues out there. Nothing is 100% fail-proof, especially when spinning at thousands of RPM.

I don’t yet have the telltale chirp, I think.

Do you have a shop of choice in the metroplex? I’ve read about the usual...21st Century, DMS, L&L, the place in Anna...FYI it was one of those that wanted me to go OEM...at just over $1K out the door.

My buddy has an 07' Base and his finally started chirping last year. He used 21st Century to replace and they used a GM factory HB. I believe he paid less than $1000 ( I recall $750) for the job and they completed it in just a few hours. When my time comes for HB replacement, I will use them as well, but would have them provide an HB of my choice or request a labor-only quote (if they do this?) and supply the HB myself.

Hope this helps. GD

That doesn’t look that bad. I’ve seen worse on here. Mine has about that much wobble and I’m at 78k still driving like I stole it,

I wouldn't worry about it, they all wobbled slightly when these cars were brand new. Doesn't look bad at all. That should last for many many more miles. My '06 stated chipping at 45,000 miles. You have a ways to go. Enjoy the car.

Thanks for your input. I was hoping to hear something like this. At least now I can start putting some $$$ into my future repairs fund and plan for this beating...OR, now that I have a surplus $1K, time for that MGW shifter, and...

Mine started chirping yesterday, I can see a little wobble down below. Have an appointment with a GM dealer next week about gas tank service bulletin, the stealership is 40 miles away, should I be worried about an 80 mile round trip? Car is a 2011 Grandsport with 7000 miles..
