Hi everyone. Due to high mileage and Texas heat, the engine harness on my 2008 m6 has degraded into a state of disrepair. It is badly heat aged and fossilized. I have the opportunity to purchase a good condition harness from a 2005. Apart from the different connectors for the oil pressure sensor and maf, could this harness effectively be dropped in and have the car start right up?
ECM connectors/pinouts are different. LS3 E38 ECM's have 2 connectors while the E40 ECM has 3. You would need to verify the black connector and gray connector wiring configuration matches.
Crank sensor and cam sensor connectors may be different, not certain.
Hell, just from base to Z51 cars have different connectors on the C184 and C180 as well.
So on that note, either find the right wiring harness for the car year and module, or have one made to fit the car year and model isntead.
Of the two, the later it often better, since you can get not only slightly larger gauge wire used, but silicone shield for close to the price of a new OEM harness.
Thank you both for the information. It appears the changes are more extensive than I expected. Do you have any recommendations for harness builders before I do my own search for one?
