2023 C6 of the Year Finalist - Modified
Default Need help with wiring C6 headlights

New to the forum....purchased a rebuild C6 (2007) and need help in identifying why the drivers side low beam will not work. Tried the bulb on the right side and it worked fine. When the previous owner replaced the bumper (no frame damage what-so-ever) they did a poor job in replacing parts. Not up to my standards at all. In the process of attempting to figure out what the 5 wire plug wire colors operate.......IE:high beam and low beam to see if it may just be one of the pins in the connector. Also, need to replace the small 3" hose from the power steering pumP (repLAcing the high pressure line....WHAT A PAIN) and found out the little 3" hose costs $35....what a rip off! Any help will be appreciated where to find for a decent price. thanks for putting up with the new geeks questions.....thanks....

Welcome to the forum.
If it isn't a pin issue, it could be a grounding issue. The electrical system in the C6 is ground initiated, so if the ground dies not have a good connection, the light will not work.

Goid Luck..report back if you find and fix the cause.

Ha ha, that's kind of how all electricity works. Current flows from negative to positive.

Research the forms there is plenty of information on the subject as a number of people have done this as a DIY.

When I did it I heated the headlights to 210 degrees in the oven ( IIRC: Double-check my temp recommendation. ) Then kept it warm with a hot air gun and separated one corner using a wide screwdriver. Once you get it started the rest of the separation is much easier as long as you keep it warm.

That is indeed true, but most people never think of the grounding when they have issues with an electrical system. Just trying to point out that checking the ground point or wire is required. If the negative is not connected properly, then the circuit will not be completed. Not so much in the C6, but the C5 were noted for bad grounding points on the frame.

I changed out my lenses using RLSebrings instructions, and I had no issues once I heated the lenses in the oven.
I started with the pointed end, got a flathead screwdriver under the lip, and was able to get it lifted the edge of the lens from the assembly, and it lifted easily from thepThe biggest pain was getting the old adhesive out if the track, but patience was key.
Good Luck
Here is the instructions that I used.

Agreed with that for sure. I am an Avionics Aerospace Engineer and we always stress when troubleshooting always check simple first. Circuit Breakers, Fuses, Grounds, Switches, and the equipment itself that doesn't work. You would be surprised how many technicians fail to check the light bulb first when a light is not working. Bad grounds themselves cause more electrical issues than almost everything else we see often.

I usually don't post twice on a topic unless I feel it could help the next guy with more information. These were the exact instructions I followed with one exception. Instead of the large clamps, you use as many Spring Clamps as you can. (I used 8 if I remember per light). Just put them on the lip of the assembly and in about 10 minutes they will be completely seated. Leave them on for another 24 hrs.

Those clamps are the best to use for sure. Great tip.
