Steering column no longer reaches intermediate shaft
UPDATE:
I am dumb. Apparently, I did not pull correctly wrong angle maybe?) on the intermediate shaft. I tried again and it easily came towards the steering column. For any future searchers, the intermediate shaft can shift forward through the firewall towards the front of the car.
I took the steering column out to replace the steering wheel position sensor. Now that I have done that, I bolted the column back in place and there is about a 2" gap between the steering column and the intermediate shaft. How can I close the gap? I have pulled on both (with just my hands) to try and get them to meet with no luck. Telescoping the wheel doesn't move any of that either. The service manual shows the below. Anyone know the trick or what I am doing wrong?
