Hi all, I need some help!
I have been getting a Check Engine Code on my 13,000 mile 2006 Z51 coupe for a few months . I first erased the message. and inspected the gas cap , I also cleaned the cap and seating area. I ordered a new cap since it was 14 years old. The light did return after about 200 miles. I reset the code after replacing the cap. The light returned after about 200 or so miles. This time I went through the codes and P 0446 Evac vent was displayed .I searched through the forum. Car runs fine other than the light.
Can someone tell me where the solenoid is located, and any other suggestions? Since this part is cheap and it is 16 years old I would not mind replacing it as well, However I do not want to play the "replace a part game".
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Barrier
Do try patience. I had this code a couple months ago and it would return immediately after being erased. Got the parts together and was waiting for the right weekend to make the repairs. Now the code is gone and check engine is out. Don’t know what caused it and don’t know what cleared it.
It probably in the same location as my 2001...right rear frame rail inboard side by the right rear tire...2 wire solenoid...power and ground controlled by the PCM..you would need a bi directional scan tool to test the ground...I would check to see if you at least have 12 volts at the solenoid before replacing !!...you can remove the connector and apply 12 volts and a ground to the vent valve... you’ll hear it click if it’s good !!
Most likely the vent valve solenoid. Located in the right rear up next to the fuel tank. Inexpensive part from Rock Auto... https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...solenoid,16992.
Easy DIY replacement. Did the repair on my '05 couple of years ago.
I just went through this with my 2006, in addition to the P0446 code, gas would spit back at me when filling up and I had a check engine light. The vent solenoid was not the problem, when it opens up it allows fresh air to be drawn into the EVAP charcoal canister. I checked all lines going to the EVAP charcoal canister by blowing 30PSI air through them (disconnected them at the engine and vent solenoid,) they were all clear including the vent solenoid. Tried blowing 30PSI into the EVAP canister, nothing would come out. I cranked the compressor up to 50PSI and a puff of gas smelling air came out of the EVAP canister, I continued to blow through each nipple (3 of them) for several minutes each with plenty of airflow. Since then I have filled up with gas with no spit back, no check engine light, and no DTC codes.
