Hello friends, i have a 2008 Chevy corvette base model with z51 package. today i decided to check my oil and i noticed it sits at the 2nd hole( middle of the crosshatch). Is this okay to drive in or do i need to add more until its sitting at the last hole? when i had my oil changed. the receipt says 6 quarts used. I get it changed at every 3000 miles.
As long as the oil level is within the crosshatch marks on the dipstick you are fine. Halfway down is about 1/2 qt low. Depending on how long it has been since your last oil change I would check it with every fuel stop just to make sure it is not the beginning of a bigger problem.

Thank you. It says on my bill, 6 quarts were used on may 4th. maybe they used 5.5? recycled the remaining .5. I checked for an oil cooler but could not locate one. Gonna just keep checking it every fuel stop. Is it imperative to check the oil when the car is cold or hot?
If possible, check the engine oil after the car has been shut down for at least 15 or 20 minutes ... that gives the oil a chance to completely flow back into the oil pan .... This is no different than any other car.
Yeah reason why i asked such a common sense question is because it seems like people say wait till its hot and it doesn't help that the manual says to check when hot but i checking while cold always made the most sense to me. Thank you for your reply!

Cold or hot does not matter with a wet sump system, whereas dry sump cars need to be warm to properly check the oil level. You do need to have the car parked on a level surface, as a sloped driveway will give a false reading.
The level could have been low due to an underfill at your last oil change, or it could be a small leak. Just keep checking it at regular intervals and as long as the level remains consistent it was probably the former and nothing to worry about.
