Default Ls7 severe wp MSD contact.

Hey I discovered last October Is that I had a small vacuum leak near the MSD and throttle body area as I had a loud wine from outside the car on throttle. Didn't really affect performance but the idle would fluctuate from 600 to 900 rpm At a stop light. Taking tb off I was shocked to see how much flat bottom my mamo msd was against the water pump. I know it's gonna need .120 3mm from wp and ..050 off msd. What's best tools to use to grind this much? Regular Dremel with regular hard stone grinding bits?? Is aluminum shavings gonna fly everywhere? I'm not used to doing this for long long time. I'm old with bad hands. Well 50 with 80 year old hands. What angle to attack from. Sorry..please ignore 1st pic.

Well first you need to take the MSD or water pump off (or get MSD enough out of the way). A dremel with the course sanding drums (the stones will not work well they get clogged easy). Get a pack of 5 and go to it. Mark the area first where it needs to be sanded also. The drums will cut write through it of course on the MSD the plastic is easy. You will also need to dremel out a little bit on water pump so the TB will clear. If you have a silver TB don't forget MSD has an adapter plate for those TBs.

a dremel might work, but will probably just succeed in pissing off your hands (and the water pump)

i picked up a 3.25 inch air-cat grinder with a 3m wheel... should make about 90 seconds worth of work out of that water pump casting...

personally i would leave the msd alone, its already weaker than the water pump because its plastic...

Thanks for the reply. Yes the MSD was taken off last fall I just haven't had a chance to do anything with the car up till now . I have my stock LS7 intake on the car right now. Is there a couple marks where the MSD was rubbing on the water pump I know where to remove some from there not too much nothing near the edge obviously but a little bit further back .. Know the contact is behind the casting scene of the pump but you need to do larger areas I've seen a few done but I haven't seen the MS D-flat bottom as much as mine and I had my torque 20 times where I didn't need the intake gaskets squished down any further.. already been sucked down as much as they could so there was no more torquing the intake bolts. Thanks. I have the msd plate having the silver blade tb. Thanks guys!
