Default What shifter is this?

I attempted to install an MGW this weekend and failed at step one. According to both the MGW video and my GM service manual, there is supposed to be a torx screw on the left side holding this shifter **** on, but mine doesn't appear to have the screw.

Does anyone know what kind of shifter this is and more importantly, how do I get the **** off?

Awesome! Thank you!

I didn't want to break anything so I figured I'd stop and ask the forum hive mind.

OEM shifter itself, OEM newer style **** that uses the newer style boot that has the silver ring that rotate locks to the bottom of the ****, and can't tell if older slip fit boot, or if silver ring was removed instead.

And older type **** that the older type boot (no top silver lock ring) just pulled up that the boot would slip into the groove to lock in place.

So down and dirty, move the top of the boot down, and on the left hand side of the lower ****, will find that retainer bolt that holds it to shaft. Remove the bolt, pull the **** straight up, then you can replace the boot (without having to pull the center console) to install a new boot that does have the silver lock ring in place. from here, reinstall the ****, then pull the boot top up to get the silver ring tab into the **** track, then twist the silver ring to lock it into place.

As for why the silver ring is missing, it was removed when someone changed out the shifter **** to an after market, that used the old type boot that would lock into a lower groove all the way around the ****.
Something like this,

OK, just went out in the garage and was able to twist the ring counter clockwise and pull it down. It was tight and I couldn't get any kind of tool on there, but I finally got it loose with just my fingers.

Sure enough the screw was under there.

Thanks again guys!

The ring is there, the boot just slipped off it. It looks like the boot was supposed to fold over a rubber ring that held it in a groove on the silver ring.

I'll fix that when I get it all apart and get the new shifter installed. I'm going to put the OEM **** and boot back on.
