Looking for brake upgrade suggestions
The long term plan was to find some better looking and perhaps better performing rear rotors when I needed to do a brake job. Unfortunately the front pads need to be replaced now. The front rotors may or may not be thick enough to be turned. Plan A would be to turn them and put the new pads on. I will find out tomorrow if that can be done.
If I had another year I would probably get the Wilwood brakes that are a drop in replacement for the J55 calipers. Not that I need that much brake, it would be as much for aesthetics as for braking capacity, probably more so.
I recently upgraded to 345 rear tires, Michelin PSS’s, and will be changing to Toyo R888R’s this week or next to try to get 700 WHP to the ground.
With the old rear tires, Michelin PSS 305’s I could brake hard enough to get the ABS to activate. I don’t know if that is the case with the 345 SS’s or will be with the Toyo’s.
The pads are Hawk PC’s which I am happy with and would\will do that again. The two things I would like to improve are a rear rotor that is not corroded and ugly and calipers that have pistons on both sides instead of only one side.
Slotted rotors I like. Drilled, not so much. I don’t track it so heat capacity for the brakes is not really a concern. As long as I can get the ABS to activate it should be adequate.
Not looking to spend a ton of money but I would rather spend once than twice. For example if I ever need new rotors the DBA’s a two piece. Is there a reasonably priced rear rotor option that is of decent quality?
Is there a reasonably priced caliper with pistons on both sides?
Thanks!!!
