my car is stock only headers and CAI. i want to use E-85 i know i need to buy flex fuel kit other than that what should i change. DO I NEED FUEL LINE, FUEL PUMP, INJECTORS, REGULATOR?
the reason why i need E85 is because the weather here is 120F like 9 months of the year so it will help alot with cooling especially when i want to take it to track.
your fuel requirements will go up 30%. Start with injectors. Aside from changing the injector data in the tune and setting up your flex fuel sensor, you will also have to have your flex fuel fuel tables set up. that should be all you need
On a close to stock car like yours you’ll lose power going E85. there’s more energy in gasoline then alcohol. You’re mileage will go down as well as your HP. You’d be better served with a quality radiator( possibly a spall fan) and extra or larger oil cooler.
Less energy per gallon doesn't mean less power. It does mean you need more fuel. The limiting factor on 93 is octane. If the current setup isn't knock limited then changing to E85 will net you the same in the end, assuming it's tuned correctly and the fuel pump/injectors are large enough to get you to the same lambda in the end
If it IS knock limited currently, then E85 could net you some power, but the caveat about being tuned correctly and large enough pump/injectors still applies, obviously.
If you're worried about heat soak at the track, have a lower temp thermostat put in the car and have the fans tuned to come on sooner. That should be sufficient enough to have the car not start pulling timing.
My Vette has ported heads, cam, headers, and 11.4:1 static compression ratio. 500 rwhp. Pat G (a very sharp cookie when it comes to tuning) said E85 on my rig would have little benefit and wouldn't be worth the hassle. In your situation, a Dewitts radiator, 160 degree 'stat, and more aggressive fan settings in the tune would show a huge benefit. With the stock radiator, you might see some benefit, but the stock radiator isn't capable of providing low coolant temps in situations where the Vette isn't moving much. Like you see waiting in line at a drag strip. The fans can only do so much. That's been my experience.
I had a Dewitts radiator in my previous Vette. Wish I'd added one to my current Vette while it was apart. I thought the Vette with the Dewitts ran too cool with the 160* stat in a lot of situations. It ran that cool with an air/water heat exchanger in front of the radiator blocking and heating up air going to the radiator. I'd imagine, without the heat exchanger in front of the radiator, it would have run cooler yet.
