I am just curious about TB's and lately I have seen many different ones for sale and for swaps and such. It seems that there are a few ways to go regarding these and the performance one can gain from installing a larger or a ported one or one with a bronze colored blade or a silver bladed one.. Now I understand the carburetor and the gains to be had with different kinds such as cam's and with accelerator pumps double or single. The size of the venturies some have small or regular size primary and larger size secondaries and some have same size prims and seconds. But as far as throttle bodies I have noticed if they are ported and with a bronze colored blade they are better ? performance wise. I would like some info behind all of the different TB's and how porting a TB can make such a big difference because I do not see how... let me know thanks alot
The silver blades are typically found on the LS2 & the gold blades on the LS3 on the C6. Try reading through the Soler Perfomance web pages. They can give you much information regarding the benefits of modified TBs on the C6. Link below:
Great website an thank you for this info I am more informed and now can make a more informed decision when I decide to go with a new better TB. all of what is in this Forum is like this best advise (mostly) and fantastic experienced knowledge that is readily available by just asking and that is priceless to a person starting out on his or her Mods for the car they are doing the Mods on (Corvette) I am very grateful to be a part of this group and all of the benefits that come with it ..Thanks !! Color of the vane, is the direction that it will open. If your car now has a silver vane TB, will need to replace it with another silver Vane unit.
Note, can use HP tuner to make software changes for different direction opening Vane to work, but is just more money on Tuner software.
As for ported TB, get a air flow chart of the unit in its vane positioning from all the way closed, to all the way open. The reason that the factory does not port, is they need the TB to be as close to liner in its opening/flow rate. On the ported unit, not the case and in fact end up with a lot of none liner/flat spots in the vane opening rate instead.
As for stock TB, flows fine up to around 700hp in a linear air flow rate, and even higher if you are running a super charger as well.
So truth is, on some of the ported over size TB's, you are just just turning the gas pedal into a on/off switch, instead of a throttle pedal that is useful for tire control around a high speed road course on the push out of the corners isntead. Same goes for the throttle enhancers that de-sensitivities the pedal and just causes the vane to open at a faster rate with less pedal push.
