2012 coupe base, no mods, 68000 miles. Everynow and them when I press the brake pedal, I hear a scrapeing noise. This sounds like when. you have worn pads. I have had brakes inspected (3 different shops said pads and rotors were ok). I had the front pads replaced. This helped some. But when pressing the brake pedal I occasionally hear this. I plan on having the rear pads replaced also. Any info would be appreciated.
TIA
If high-temp brake lube wasn't applied to the metal parts of the pads or caliper pistons on reassembly, then this is most likely the cause of the noise you hear. That would be metal-to-metal contact.
Because of the conditions where the brakes live is not ideal, old or new, existing lube can be washed-out & lack of high-temp brake lube could be your problem. I say this because you have basically ruled-out some of the other conditions that cause a metallic scraping sound. You may need to reapply lube during the life of the brake pads, especially if they become noisy.
Otherwise, if you are handy, try to isolate where you hear the noise, front, back, right or left. Disassemble the system yourself, perform inspection to see if you can locate the problem and then resolve. If everything looks right, then reassemble with judicious use of brake lube and that should solve the majority of brake noise issues. I would agree that something is wrong as metallic scraping sounds would also drive me crazy and shouldn't emanate from the system.
Good luck and let us know what you find to be the fix.
