Lower Door Hinge Replacement
There was a groaning noise coming from the lower hinge on the driver's door of my 2006 Z06. I oiled it like crazy to try to get rid of it, but it did not go away, so I decided to replace the hinge and spring. I did the job myself using the tools that I have, but you also must have a
. They cost very little. I used an overhead chain hoist with two straps to support the door for the initial part of the job which included removal of the old hinge and rough installation of the new hinge. You have to take all four bolts out of the lower hinge but even then, there is not enough space to remove the hinge. You have to loosen (but not remove) the two bolts in the upper hinge that secure the upper hinge to the body of the car. This allows you to move the door away from the body and tilt it up a little, which will give you enough space to remove the old lower hinge and install the new hinge. I used a floor jack under the door for the final hinge installation and door alignment. The door is silent now. Yay!
