Default Which Torque Coverter?

Vehicle: 2006 Base coupe A6 trans.
Mods so far: Vararam CAI, Soler Performance 95mm ported Throttle Body, 1 3/4" Dynatech Longtube Headers, Dynatech catted X-Pipe, Corsa Sport Exhaust, Tuned by Tampa Tuning.

I am looking to throw in a beefy Cam (BTR stage 3 or Texas Speed equivalent) next year but want to install a torque converter first. Anyone have any recommendations, suggestions, feedback, timeslips on any of these? Currently thinking of one of the follwing:

3600 stall speed FTI: https://www.ebay.com/itm/28372250886...sAAOSwvwFeA4Ld

3600 stall speed Yank: https://www.texas-speed.com/p-6009-y...-corvette.aspx

3500-3600 stall speed Circle D: https://www.circledspecialties.com/6...o-series-245mm

(Anyone selling one?) Thanks in advance!!!!

I am selling my YANK SS 3200 stall and the only reason that I pulled it out (just pulled it out today) is because of the California CARB SMOG law that will not allow us to have any tuning in our ECU's, so I had to go back to stock -I just went back to my stock Torque Converter and 2.56 rear due to the new California SMOG law, we cannot have anything tuned in the ECU, and that means not even having the YANK SS 3200 Stall and transmission tuned, not even the 3.42 Z06 rear differential that I had (pulled today as well). Which will be up for sale too.

Feel free to call or text me or email - it is in "MINT" condition and works flawlessly - I only have about 4,000 miles on it since I have owned it, no drag racing, or track time, just an occasional flogging here and there.

Thanks,Matt

When I had my 3600 Yank, about 1.56 60' times were the best. After I switched to a 4000 Yank, I ran 1.48 - 1.52 fairly consistent. '08 bolt-on w/2.56 gear. My racing buddy had a cammed '07, 4000 Yank, 3.42 gear, best 60' 1.51

What's wrong with installing a converter without the transmission tune tweeked ?

The Circle-D converter in my supercharged GS is working fine without transmission ECU changes.

My GS was dyno tuned after installing the supercharger ... However, later on, the converter was added, but no changes were made to the tune after installing the converter.

More than likely many of the parameters on your A6 were changed or adjusted when you were Dyno tuned -

When you go through the tuning processes for a Stalled Torque Converter you are able to take full advantage of it and ensure that you do not slip or do any damage to the trans - Stall converters are not plug-n-play unfortunately

Often times just throwing in a stall converter and not doing any tuning can make the trans throw a slipping code - ughh!

There are many tables that need to be adjusted and fine tuned for it to work properly and especially on a stock untouched transmission - you'd be surprised the difference after the fine tuning just how it feels!

Thanks,Matt

Thanks Matt,

Maybe I will bring my car back over to Redline Motorsports here in Florida and have Howard Tanner look at it and make some adjustments.

Howard initially dyno tuned the car after I installed the SC, but later, I had someone else install the converter and no re-tuning was done after that.

I have noticed that during normal city driving that it will upshift though the gears very quickly ... sooner than before the converter was installed.

At WOT, I get a lot of wheel spin when using stock rear tires, and as soon as the tires start spinning, it will shift to the next higher gear ... then it will shift back into the lower gear again when the wheel spin slows ... I think that is not real good for the transmission when it's happening at WOT.

Ron,
That's because the converter will shift MPH and RPM from stock. The trans controller references MPH to make part throttle shifts. Also there is more slip error then stock..

That should be a really good converter for you. Not too low, and not too high, and it will give you a big kick in the pants when you stomp on the pedal and flash it.
