Default Coolant flush.

My 2005 is due for a coolant change and It’s been my understanding that running the engine during a coolant flush using fresh water is detrimental to the bearings in the water pump which are lubricated by the coolant.
No coolant… no lubrication.
any input would be appreciated.

What I did, like others took in for service and told them to replace all the fluids, it was time. They have the machines to for the coolant with todays technically to suck out the old coolant, and return with fresh coolant, and no air bubbles, and have them service transmission and rear end and flush the brake system all with fresh fluid, then good for the next couple years.

I know lot of people say they do it them selfs, but at my age and no lift, I'll pay to have it done right. Let's face it these are babies and we need to treat them right.

First drain the radiator. Then remove the lower radiator hose at the radiator.

Remove the upper radiator at the radiator. Loosen the upper radiator hose at the engine and rotate the hose upwards.

Pour 2 - 3 gallons of distilled water into the upper radiator hose thus flushing the block.

Re-connect all hoses. Add the proper amount of anti freeze for your location. Then top off with distilled water.

Run engine. When engine has cooled the upper radiator hose will collapse if air is in the system.

Run engine and squeeze upper radiator hose by hand while engine is running to purge the air into the reservoir.

Add water as needed to fill the system. Repeat as the air is removed from the system.

Not a problem as there are no water lubricated bearings in your water pump. Afraid you have been misinformed.

All GM vehicles use the same coolant. The maintenance interval is 5 years or 150,000 miles.
