Default Header removal

Header removalBought an 08 base with American Racing 1 7/8 headers and off road mid pipes and NPP. All slip joints. The builder did the install with heads off while doing procharger, head and clutch work. Headers discolored and am wanting to pull the headers and get them coated. Forum search looks like the headers come out easily from below. How do I get the rest apart enough to get headers separated from mid pipes?

Start at the back loosening the hangers. Then disconnect the flange between the header & the mid-pipe. There should be enough clearance to swing the headers down & out.

There are no flanges. Just slip joints.

Doesn't make a difference, take the clamps off and pull them apart. As long as the builder didn't use the pinch clamps you will be fine.

From what I have seen, disconnect mid-pipe, remove spark plugs and wires, remove o2 sensors, unbolt headers and drop out the bottom. Here are the installation instructions for LG Motorsports headers.

There are also some youtube videos on the installation headers.

Remove clamps and disconnect the midpipes where they connect to the mufflers/axle-back. Remove the two bolts holding the mid-pipe to the spring isolators. Remove the clamps from the header to mid-pipe connection. Disconnect the rear O2 sensors from the car. Remove the mid-pipe. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the starter. Remove plug wires and plugs. Remove/disconnect the fron O2 sensors. Remove header bolts. Remove headers from the bottom.

It can help to unbolt one of the bottom nuts of the engine mounts one side at a time and jack up the engine using a 2x6 and jack very carefully on the oil pan. This can give a little bit more room on the side that the mount is unfastened. Then do the opposite side the same way.
