Are there any known ways to detect a bad lifter.. short of pulling the heads and inspecting? I have HPtuners and was planning on logging misfires.. Any other ideas?
Find a shop that can do an advanced "in cylinder pressure analysis"...you can easily detect a wiped cam lobe with this test without removing the heads....just hook up to a vacuum source in the intake and at the exhaust !!...if you want to drive to Florida I'd be happy to do it....10-15 minute diag.
NO my friend this is not something you can do with HP Tuners !!…this test requires a very expensive piece of diagnostic equipment with a scope and very few shops can do it and a lot
have never heard of it !!
You can also pull the valve covers and look at the rocker arms. Measure the movement there with a dial indicator. That's a lot less work than pulling the heads.
