Is there a quality brand of 5W30 synthetic oil that contains a high level of detergent in it ? I'd like to start to slowly clean up the insides of my LS2 ?
I've always heard to only use the recommended Mobil1 5w30.
What does the forum think of adding a little seafoam before an oil change to run the engine and clean it out, then change the oil like normal so you don't constantly have seafoam in your engine?
Just keep using TopTier rated fuel & name brand synthetic oil (with regular oil & filter changes) that meets the dexos rating and you will have the additives & detergents needed to clean & keep your engine clean as you drive. So the next item on the list is to put more miles on the engine to keep the cleaning process in action.

Depends on what kind of miles you have on your car and motor. If high, don't do it. High detergent oils like Esther based syntethics will clean the heck out of your engine but also the gunk around your dried up from age gaskets and seals and your engine will leak like a sift. That is why they sell oil for aged engines which still keep gaskets working as normal. Ask me how i know. One time i ended up spending 3k to replace every seal on my 120 k DD Volvo S70 because shop felt like using this new and improved, better than all oil which happened to be Esther based. Now nothing goes in my engines which i do not improve.

I think I'll stick to the recommended oil and not mess with anything different. That is unfortunate to read. I put seafoam through a 170k mile Accord when I was a teenager and I couldn't tell what it did other than create an impressive smoke show. Rather not risk it if there's no benefit.
From those I've polled, the thinking is that Amsoil XL 5W/30 series has a really complete detergent package, I think I'll run that for the next year and see how much 'cleaner' it is in the future. Here's hoping !
