I have a '09 C6 LS3 Z51 that has a wobbly Crank balancer and needs replacing. I plan on using C&S Corvettes to supply the parts and they have recommended SUMMIT RACING balancer.
I am looking for a good CORVETTE shop, or qualified mechanic to do the work. I would appreciate it if someone can recommend someone to do the job. Must be in North Alabama or South Tennessee.
Chevy dealer has quoted me a price of $1400 to the job. I didnt mention that I was using an aftermarket balancer but I doubt if that would affect the price.
Sorry that I am not able to contribute to your question. However, I am watching with anticipation. I have a similar issue with my 2006 C6. What are the chances the dealer will install an aftermarket balancer on your car. Might they insist on installing a OEM factory balancer.
Dont buy anything JEGS or SUMMIT Brand, you might have luck or you might not(imo), get a Chevy one or something mid range around same price as a factory one, good aftermkt ones cost near the same, you want something that is proven for daily driving stuff. Then you got the made of gold ones, new and improved from a old company but remember, most of their stuff is made for quarter mile stretches and they dont hand out guarantees at all.
$2-300 is normal.
Labor, idk, front dress on these engines look a lil tight lol.
------------Get a new bolt(and washer if it has one) also-------------$
Vette balancers are different than the other models that use these engines, the accessory drive are not the same distances, the balancers have diff lips, width and depths.

Jim, have you called Corvettes Unlimited?
There's probably other shops around that also do work on these. I've got other friends with Corvettes around here.
i can also ask the Vets with Vettes and Corvette Owners club (Huntsville).

The balancer problem only happens with factory OEM parts. Why would you replace a failed part with another one just like it that is almost guaranteed to fail again in the same manner?
This is true but I like to think it was a bad day on the assembly line and they fixed it by now lol. Most high end drag racing stuff is not for daily driving(or extended beyond a 1/4 mile) so you gotta watch there also, kinda double duty thing.

I get what you're saying. Sometimes race parts aren't so great for daily driving. The balancer is not one of those cases. The original was just a bad design, and there has been no design update for service parts that I've heard about.
So to be clear... If I drive into a dealer with a harmonic balancer I want installed on my Vette, the dealer service department will install a balancer that is not sourced by the dealer??? Are you guys sure that will happen??? What a warrantee? Is that going to happen?

What if you put it on? It doesn't matter who puts it on I dont mean that type of warranty, the part itself is the guarantee. Balancers you get from Jegs and Summit are trash and will not last on a car that drives for four hours in a row, none the less something you want to last for 10yrs or longer.
If Chevy makes pos balancers then buy a ford i guess or replace the balancer once in a lifetime on your Vette. Go buy a Jaguar or Range Rover and let those British piles of sh** nickle and dime you death.

This topic is of particular interest to me because I need a replacement harmonic balancer for my C6 Vette. I am not in a position to install my own harmonic balancer. Like a lot of others, I will need the job done, most likely by the dealer. It is that of which I question weather of not a dealer will install a part that they do not source from their stock of components.

My dealer will offer a 2 year waranty if it is a factory HB.
They will not offer a warranty on an aftermarket part, they will however install it for you.
The installation cost is the same, no matter where you bought the part.
Dealer says they can do the install in 9-11 hours.
I talked with the service manager at my local Chevy dealer, and they told me, due to parts shortages, that the service department is 90% of the dealers' profits.

Jim
Dealers want to sell from their stock, the parts they install with some level of warranty. If I were a dealer, I would do the same.
I’m going install PowerBond PB1117SS from Summit Racing at C&S Corvettes next month. Estimated 1k for parts and work. 5-6 hours. They are good guys, I trust C&S more than dealers, especially in Fl
