Not at all, but I would certainly get a set of those spark pug wire heat shields.

Tip ... Put on a set of rubber gloves when installing or you will be itching for the rest of the day from the fiberglass.

I'm still using the OEM factory wires at 160K+ and with headers for more than half that time. YMMV

With no heat shield? I just got my headers installed and forgot to pull the rail covers to make sure the wires arent close to touching anywhere.

You have a choice between appearance and performance when making mods. While some performance mods may look better than OEM, you are still choosing performance as the priority.

I removed the coil/fuel rail covers in early '08 to avoid excessive heat buildup. I also removed the rubber hood seal at the cowl for the same reason. Better engine compartment airflow improves parts performance and longevity.

I never had the covers on my c5 for the same reason, heat soak. They come off the c6 when I’m out looking for fun and will come off for the track too.

I used stock wires and got the wire "Socks" from Hinson because they are the same length as the plug wires.

I have the taylor thundervolt wires, they came w/ thermal socks. No issues with them breaking down etc. Stock wires fell apart due to the heat (they didnt touch... the heat from the longtubes just made them brittle)
