I have had long tube headers and CAI with (and without initially) a dyno tune on my car for over 2 years now.
guess what? Smog time! So I put stock headers and stock airbox on and head for the smog shop❤... Too bad!! Now cars with tunes can't pass because the D.A.D won't recognize the car. Used to never be a thing cause I've passed with a tune before (New law change this year in June I think). Oh well...
I call My tuner (3 hours away). Tuner says my stock tune is no longer in file so I had to buy a gm tune from a shop (20mins away) and have them install the stock tune and also email both (the new gm stock tune and my dyno tune) tune files to me.
Drove a couple days and buela! Passed smog.
Now, here is the fun part... I put on my headers and CAI back into my car.
Suddenly the car has 3 lights that come on and off every minute or so nonstop.
They are: Service ABS/Traction control/Active Handling
On top of engine light (which I know is the missing rear of sensors)
Ok so it has these lights. Fine on idle. But when I put it in drive it shakes a bit rough... when I drive, it jumps and shakes a lot! So much so, like if you are driving in a very very very bumpy musical road type of vibrations.
This happens any time you accelerate. Any time!!!
For example, When at speeds of 70mph in 6th gear and you try to accelerate (overtake acceleration) it does it again. Feels very unsafe and also makes the car backfire a lot.
I did a bit of research. Could be a bad speed sensor (so a whole wheel hub replacement from a specific side) or the abs control module. or something else like a bad MAF (even though I literally switched the maf from stock airbox to Vararam and it was fine before and after smog (this all started after headers and CAI)). I'll never know until an expensive diagnostic scan tool is used to determine what it actually is all WHILE driving. I dont have access to that at least not right now.
Now, I will be heading back to the tuner to put on my original dyno tune on Wednesday and see if that fixes some stuff. I doubt it though. But at least I'll have my dyno tune back to better my performance and what nots.
Maybe a broken spark plug or loose plug wire post header swap. Battery not up to snuff.
Could be. But wouldn't that mean misfires? I didn't say on the post but I did install new OEM AcDeclo spark plug wires onto the car for maintenence (made sure they were put in right) and the spark plugs are fairly new ZR1 spark plugs its been using for over a year now. I did hang the headers on the sides of them but never had a problem. I've done this many times before on this car and others.
One spark plug definitely has a cracked insulator and then another one has superficial cracks. I'm replacing both. The rest are perfect. I'll report back after a drive for results.
Reporting back. Replaced both spark plugs. Car runs perfect now with no hiccups. No abs light or traction. Control light or stability control light either. Thanks 87SAM
