I just purchased a C6 2012 Grand Sport. I had been reading about Weather Mode on the C7s.
Is there anyway to get this mode installed on the C6's?
Hmm also looking for the best "rain tires" for a daily driver in Florida? We don't deal with the cold as much here obviously but tons of rain. I have been reading the other threads for best rain tires but no conclusion at this point. It seems the wider tires on the Grand Sport are much more prone to hydroplaning but am still struggling to understand how much more than the base C6 and a base vs a normal car like a Camry.
Thanks all. I may start another thread on the tires though / driving in rain daily driving etc.
Ah it looks as if these may be solid for wet driving conditions in the Grand Sport? Are these the best??
I haven't found a way to "install" modes, but the OEM stability control is pretty invasive in slippery conditions also. You could remap your throttle curve even more to keep from accidentally over-accelerating.
There aren't a lot of correctly-sized tires for rain. The ONLY all-season tire I see that comes in a correct rear is the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4. An all-season should give tremendously more stability in poor conditions. Going to a narrower rear, maybe a 295, might open up more tire options for you, but that Michelin is the only one I see in OEM size (via SimpleTire)

Bought Cont Extreme Contact summer tires for my C6, good enough for street dd ( 🌧 day), but not good enough for highway driving above 60mph ( 🌧 day) . IMHO. Miami FL area
Personally & for the best "rain" tire, I would go with the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4. I have the Pilot Sport 4S on the rear of my Grand Sport and the AS3 on the front. Michelin didn't offer the AS tire when I needed to replace my rear tires at the time. My buddy went with all four of the AS3 on his 07 Base and is very happy.
Just an opinion, but my experience with Nitto Invos, is the super wide circumference grooves create sufficient channels for excess water. Kinda like several narrow tires in one. Not much rain in Phoenix, but when it does, it's a lot all at once. They're fairly sticky too when dry.
Yes by their ratings the Michelon Pilot All Season 4's look to be the way to go! I saw someone else post some ratings on a couple of tires for wet performance but these look to be the highest.
So they should do solid in wet conditions in Florida daily driving? but at the same time, the wider tire of the Grand Sport will still be at more risk of Hydroplaning than your average car even with the Michelin Pilot All Season 4s? Just the laws of physics I suppose.
Thanks for the input on the "Weather Mode". Would be interesting if could get it on the C6 though!!
But I suppose just keeping it in Street Mode as recommended, having some good tires like the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4s, controlling throttle more and slowing down (avoiding interstates if necessary) during rainy conditions and should be ok even in a Grand Sport as a daily driver in Florida... though have been reading the different opinions on here some saying yes and others no.
At least in Florida we just generally have to deal with rain.. not the rain / cold problem.
We have used our C6 on many long road trips, and 90% of those we have run into rain, sometimes very heavy, including Florida returning from Key West. We have travelled over 80k miles in all of the eastern seaboard states, as well as most of the states as far west as Indianna. For those reasons, a great rain tire was a must. Tire Rack has the best search engine for tires, and I have depended upon their reviews to pick my tires. My latest tire is the Michelin PS 4S and the very first trip we took with them, of course we hit a rain storm, and as described, great in rain at highway speeds. All the 5 sets of tires I have used were replaced at 4/32" just to assure good traction and reduced road noise. The worst tire was the GY F1 Supercars which would hydroplane like crazy at 50mph. I got rid of those at 6/32". The old style tread designed Firestone Indy 500's were the best to date in the rain, but the newer tread design did not meet the standards that I wanted. Good Luck in your search.

No, you can't add "weather" mode to the C6 GS, it's part of the gen 2 PTM (Performance Traction Management), which was only on the C7. The C6 ZR1 (and some Z06s) had gen 1 PTM, which has the beginnings of "weather" mode, but honestly it's not very good. I've driven both my previous '13 GS and my current '12 ZR1 pretty extensively in the rain (GS was a daily for several years, the ZR1 has gotten a lot of rain on trips). The best thing for driving in the rain in a C6 is tires with decent tread (honestly 5/32nds+) and being careful in your throttle application.
Yes replacing tires at 4/32 at minimum vs 2/32 seems to be the way to go. The Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4s have a good Wet traction / hydroplane rating as I posted above so will probably go with them.
Yes careful on the throttle and probably best to stay off interstates in the rain if can help it I suppose since if slow down too much on them is also dangerous as will get rammed.
