Default Need tranny cooler help please

2011 Grand sport -
Circle D 3500 stall
Long tubes - no cats
I just installed an ECS supercharger as well as a stand alone tranny cooler.

B&M 70266 SuperCooler Automatic Transmission Cooler

  • Rigid stacked-plate design is resistant to damage, and much better at cooling than ordinary 'fin and tube' coolers
  • Constructed from black finished lightweight aluminum alloy for maximum corrosion resistance
  • 11" x 8" x 1-1/2" racing model is rated at 20,500 BTU, and pressure tested to 200 PSI
  • Fluxless, oven brazed construction is vibration resistant
  • Multiple oil flow paths for maximum cooling efficiency
I bypassed the stock radiator and made this stand alone.
Previously to the cooler install, the tranny would run about 10-20 degrees over the coolant tamps.
I was expecting FAR less than what I experienced today, my 1st run out with it.

I did make some spirited jaunts after making sure that everything was ok with the install (like I said, I just installed ECS & stand alone tranny tuner)
Temps got up to 180-200 pretty damn quick.
I then proceeded to drive home (40 minutes) and noticed that my tranny temps were 215! And thats while locked in over drive 65mph - also, it was 55 degrees outside today.,
The tranny cooler is behind the radiator & the intercooler but I still thought that it would get enough flow to cool it off.
1) is the cooler too small?
2) do I need a fan on it?
3) any other thoughts?
Thanks!
Don

Needs to be in the air flow. In front of rad or some people remove a fog light and put it there

I think that you’re right. I ordered a small fan and am hoping to remedy it that way.

That cooler is a bit small without a fan and not in full airflow. I see 2 options
1) reconnect factory cooler and run that cooler in line ….it will lower temps a bit below whatever they were before you installed it
2) get one or two fans and it and get it in front of some fresh air if you plan to run it stand alone.
good luck

Agree the cooler is probably a little small used as a stand alone. Move it into an airflow path, and plumb it back in with the radiator cooler, AFTER the radiator has already done its cooling.

That's the same size as my cooler, mine runs 170-180 all day long. Mine is in front of the condenser, you should never put the cooler in the wake of the radiator. It make no sense to put a cooler in the flow of HOT air.
