You can't as I tried something very similar once and it didn't work. I ended up having to drop the cradle like usual.
From what I remember the problem was that after unbolting the torque tube from the transmission you need to separate those two parts, but due to the tight clearances I couldn't move the torque tube far enough forward to remove the converter from the transmission.
