Without knowing the drivers talent or skill level you can't really make that argument... because yes the coilovers do make the car perform better... the driver has nothing to do with that... If you put a pro driver in two identical c6s, one with stock suspension, and the other on a coilover setup, guess which ones going around the track faster... They certainly aren't going to make anyone slower
Coilovers will most definately make a big improvement for performance and handling.
Drive one with a correct set-up ie allignment/corner weighted and matched with the right sway bar and tire and see for yourself.
As far as comfort; forget it. It's going to be "harsh" on many roads with any decent stiff spring IMHO.
Smaller bumps become bone-jarring at times. For smooth roads and/or a road course I wouldn't want anything else.
I run an LG/T1 set-up with Toyo R888r's and Borg Motorsports control arm bushings. It's a well rounded platform for the $$.
Ride hight is adjustable.
Here's my street profile. The car now better supports the weight of the duel intercoolers. No longer break lower radiator supports entering/exiting driveway aprons which is an add bonus.
