Default Header install height required?

Hi
Installing ARH headers in my 2008 z06. I have the stock manifolds out and I read the car needs to be raised a minimum of 24" in the front. is that accurate? Right now I am at 18" .
Thanks
Todd

The higher up you can get your car the better. If you can only get to 18 inches, you may need take off the engine mounts and mount brackets to get enough room. You can support the engine with a jack and 2x6 under the oil pan.

I agree with you, spaceme1117, but want to add this. To the OP:

Be careful how high you jack the motor, because if you go high enough you'll hit the back of the intake against the firewall, and something will break if you are overzealous!! Just keep a close watch on everything!!

One way to get the car 24" off the ground.I have jack stands but I feel better with the blocks under the tires. Now to see if the headers will slip in.

I did mine and had no issues once I got it up around 24". I bought one of the long reach, low profile Daytona (snap on clone) jacks from Harbor Frieght and it's great. Goes under the car without hitting anything, and can get it plenty high. It's a nice investment if you do your own maintenance.

I will be installing a set of Kooks soon and was wondering the same thing..my 3 ton jack stands measure 18” also so I am going to cut up a 2x10 and put them under the jack stands to get a little more height. Hopefully that will be high enough.

I don’t know about the ARH install but my Kooks went in without a hitch with the car on 3 ton jack stands at around 18 inches. Easiest install of headers I have ever done.

Good to hear, that gives me some confidence. Honestly just from the looks of it I’m expecting it to be a pretty easy install. I think the most difficult part is going to be trying to get this DEI heat shield sleeve I bought over the starter without removing it. It just wraps around it and velcros but I’m afraid the wiring is going to get in the way and I know it’s a tight area. We’ll see I guess.

Don't bolt headers up tight till you attach the Xpipe. you'll need wiggle room.

OP, like HK770 said, I wouldn’t tighten anything all the way before everything is together. It makes a big difference.

I was just about to ask this. I was under the impression you should torque all the header bolts then work your way back. Thanks!

Yes, start at the headers when you are ready for the final tightening, but I put all the bolts/hangers together and tightened until just loose enough to adjust position as necessary before doing so.
