Is there a common point of failure for a power steering fluid leak? From underneath I can see some fluid on the bottom of the pump. Seems like it's been a slow leak. I don't get fluid on the ground. The steering works fine. It doesn't seem like it has leaked all the fluid out to the point it can't make pressure. I haven't started taking parts off yet. I can't even see anything looking from the top. Any advice or links to good videos on pump removal? The ones I watched, already had the engine bay half torn apart. Does the seal from the reservoir to the pump go bad after 15+ years?

Get dye, Works great. Spray down real good with brake cleaner. You should be able to spot it. I had a freon leak for yrs could not spot it. Used dye spotted with in 5min.
I haven't taken the pump out, but from what I can tell, I think it is leaking out the pulley shaft. I looked at Rock Auto to price a new pump. I see they have a Power Steering Pump Shaft Seal.
Is this a common point of failure? If Rock Auto sells a new seal, it would make sense to me that it's common. Anyone ever replaced one? Is it difficult? The seal is $25. An off brand pump is $100. The AC Delco pump is over $400. I figure the pump has to come out no matter what route I go to fix this.
If I remember, the 05 (and maybe others) had faulty lines and GM replaced them with a new design at some point. Been on this forum for years and this is the first I've heard of an issue like this. Ive had my 05 for 16 yrs now and no issues with the PS pump.
