Reverse lockout
so I purchased a 06 z06 a few months back. Car is moderately modified, intake, throttle body, cams, heads, exhaust ect. The more I dig into the car the more things i discover modified.
The 06 has the t56 trans, same trans that was in my supercharged mustang, but I have been having a hard time finding 5th gear due to the lockout not working. I immediately ordered a new one thinking it just needs replaced. Wierd thing is the only time it works is after you turn the car off and wait approx 10 seconds. Even with accessory power on the reverse lockout will allow you Into reverse.
I looked under the car and found the skip shift un plugged and capped.I get no engine lights and the ecm is clear of codes.
I'm wondering if the previous owner deleted the function of the reverse lockout in the ECM or moded it another way for whatever reason.
Again the lockout will work but only after you shut the ignition off and wait 10 seconds. Any help identifying why the lockout isnt working while moving would be great. Thanks.
1. You are having difficulty shifting into 5th gear.
2. You are having difficulty shifting into reverse.
The first thing you need to sort out is the part about shifting into 5th gear. The reverse lockout has nothing to do with shifting into 5th gear. Once you have that figured out, then move on to the problem of shifting into reverse.
But would back up to figure out why the reverse lock is it not working correctly. Hence did someone screw something up with an after market tune, or is the reverse lock out assembly needing to be replaced. Once that is resolved, then re-index the shifter since the problem may be as simple as the rear coupling loose.
Also, while you are into the shifter assembly and lower box, would be a good time to update them to a MGW shifter assembly, which takes a hell of lot of slop out of the shifting to begin with, and makes finding the correct gates a snap as well. My guess, is at one time, it did have a MGW shifter in the car, but when the old owner went to sell the car, it was pulled, and when the old OEM shifter was put back in, did not index it correctly, and did not get the rear coupling bolt tight enough so there is not slop there as well.
