CV Axle Replacement
My 2007 Z51 has a leaking boot on the driver's side cv axle. It's bone stock and will remain that way, so I'm not looking for high end replacements. The GM replacements are showing discontinued on some of the GM Parts sites so I'm wondering if anyone has any experience using any of the aftermarket cv axles (that are about a third of the price GM wants)? For example, Autozone sells a Duralast Gold brand of replacement cv axles for the C6. Also looking for any recommendations for maintenance items that should be done while the rear is disassembled.

So long as your not banging at the car, the after markets are not bad.
If you are banging at the car, then GM and others have stronger axles.
Another option if its just the boot that is cracked, is to just pull the axle, and replace the boot.
Hence the joints are packed in grease to begin with, and if joint is fine, but boot alone cracked and allowing the grease to be slung, no reason to throw the baby out with the bath water.
And the last one, grease the shaft and hub spines, and when you go to re-torque the axle nut at the hub, 120ft llbs max, and use 272 loctite.

Got any boot replacement recommendations? The "expert" Corvette shop that I first took my Corvette to said the aftermarket boots are junk and to replace the whole axle when the CV boot is torn. They replaced the axle and I kept the old one hoping I could re-use it some day.
