Wondering if anyone is having this problem and I'm looking for solutions.
The shift on my automatic C6 is getting stuck in the park position. When I push the button to release the shifter it will not compress when squeezed.
Any suggestions for a remedy?
Thanks ahead of time for any help.
Craig
When that happen to me I push the shift slight forward with the brake peddle pressed down. You can here the click of the solenoid release. Them I can move it into drive. One day I'll fix it.
There are a lot of things you can do to fix this, from replacing the micro switch to tying or cutting the shift pawl. A lot of guys would cut the pawl, I for one decided to tie it back. Do a search on this forum and you’ll get a lot of info on how to do this. The hardest part is getting the console cover off, the rest is easy. I used a high test fishing line with steel crimps. You can use anything you want but I found this to work out great. If you want to go this route, I’ll send you what you need, that’s what someone did for me, so I want to pass it forward.
Good luck
Lots of posts about this. You could tie the locking pawl back for a permanent fix but the shifter can be taken out of park without stepping on the brake. In the end the easiest and less of a PIA if you don't want to do that is in the link. You don't say what year the car is. This is for a 2005. https://proshop.summitracing.com/sea...yword=15277559

There are better ways to fix this than buying a shifter kit as mentioned above. That’s only giving you the same mechanism that’s failing. Fix this for nothing, I’ll even send you the parts needed.

no picture required, it’s only high test fishing line with metal crimps. To keep your pawl working as is, that includes using the brake to release, you can run your wire into your console and if you need it , it’s there for you.

So your'e using fishing line to pull the pawl lock off? Hiding in the console and every time the shifter locks you need to open the console and pull the line. Most people can't do this modification and can't be bothered. Either defeat the pawl lock or replace the shifter. The customers I've had with this issue don't want to mess with a pull string and just want it to work. Not saying your method doesn't work, but it's not for everybody.

I do agree, it’s not for everyone. But, I just want guys to know that there are options available, some will lock out the pawl completely by cutting it off or tying it back with what means you feel are appropriate, fishing line or wire or whatever you have around the house. If in the near future you want to reverse it, you can unless you cut the pawl off. I’ve even heard guys using zip ties to fix the problem. And I’ve talked to some guys and they thought having the wire in the console was a good idea, everyone is different and the clientele are different too, were money is no object. I for one wanted to fix this problem on my own Corvette. Research and problem solving is what I do, being a Automotive Engineer for 35 years it’s in my blood. That’s the kind of guy I am. I’ve owned plenty of cars through out my life, from Camaro’s to Novas and Corvettes to Tri Five Chevy’s.
I appreciate your thoughts and ideas. We are all different. Peace ✌️
