Default 2008 C6 Base Door Unlocking Issue

Hi all. New member, first post.

Sorry if this has been covered before.

New to me 2008 C6 Base 6 speed. Z71 package. 3LT interior package.

Love the car but I am having difficulty with the doors constantly locking me in to the vehicle. That is, after I drive it I always have to push the unlock door button to get out unless the engine is off. Sometimes even with the engine off I am locked in. It’s super annoying. Same for my passenger.

I have gone through all the options settings and it seems no matter what I do the doors still lock while driving. I just want them to stay unlocked!

It has two working key fobs and two positions it can remember on the door.

I have R.T.F.M in detail and simply can’t get this figured out so I wanted to stop in here to ask what best practice is for the car.

It may be something only a dealer can change?

I would like the car to lock itself when it is parked and I walk away, then unlock when I come near it with key fob. But not lock itself ever while driving. Is that possible?

Thanks in advance. From what I have seen the Corvette community is just amazing, and way more enthusiastic than I ever anticipated. I am stoked to be a part of it.

For my 2009 the doors lock when the car is above 8 MPH (manual xmission) or moved from Park (auto xmission).

The doors unlock when the ignition is turned to off or it is in "retained accessory power" mode (manual xmission) or when the shift lever is placed in Park (auto xmission).

Unlock settings can also be configured using the DIC.

All info taken from the owners manual. Suggest you accept the fact that the doors are locked while the vehicle is in motion.

True as I understand it car has to be in park before doors will open. You can't open the hatch either till you stop

I have been reading manual yet again more carefully and I believe you are right. And I am certain I have the options set properly for Auto Unlock.

With a manual transmission the engine must be off for auto door unlock. Not idling stopped with foot on brake, not idling in neutral with parking no brake applied. Off.

I believe the only escape options with the engine running are:
1. turn car off
2. push up lock toggle manually then exit
3. use the manual door pulls.

Thanks for the effort.

I don’t want to jump out of a moving car but sometimes my passenger wants to exit a running, stationary car and that is where I am noticing the issue.

Yes I agree on the three options you have come up with to allow a passenger to exit a manual transmission car.

If you think about it, pushing the unlock button to let a passenger out isn't any different from many of the cars made at that time (2008).

My newest manual is a 2002 and the more modern autos force me to go into park😀

It’s not a big deal, just a quirk I needed to understand. If my passenger wants to jump out in a parking lot or something I just need to push the unlock toggle.

And I also understand why GM programmed it that way. They have interior electric switches that can get bumped at any time and at least partially throw open the door. It’s a stupid attempt at high tech that unfortunately all manufacturers seem to be going to. Maybe it makes building the door easier too using electronic instead of mechanical actuation?

It would be good design to be able to unlock in neutral, parking brake on.

It’s all part of learning the car. And wow what a car. I am extremely impressed with the Vette.
