Purchased a 05 coupe, stick, 13,856 miles- one year ago. Pristine, no marks anywhere.
Yesterday check engine light went on and console said reduced engine power. What’s up with this message?

If the MIL is illuminated best to get a scan tool on it and see what you have…Autozone may be able to read it for you but DON’T let them try to sell you any parts for that DTC !!

Anyone auto parts store have Tech II to pull the codes, and even it tells you what is wrong, write down the numbers and google it.

It will tell you more detail of the code.

Welcome I also have 05, love it, and had my share of check engine nightmares from gas cap to cats clogged!

I NEVER diagnose based on what the DTC says…this can lead you down a rabbit hole…you can have a lean condition causing an O2 DTC…that’s what the parts store will try to sell you.

I own Tech II and after spending 15 years running service department I think I know how to use it properly to read codes, sorry for being blunt.

Forgive me!

Cool !!…question ??…do your Techs use a scope for driveability issues or any electrical diagnostics ??…a VW service manager I was speaking to here said they use one but only VERY rarely…I hear GM uses a Picoscope for NVH issues only but that’s it…they don’t have any other accessories such as amp clamps or incylinder pressure transducers…thanks !!

You know it's so long ago, and my memory is blank to this ancient computers on rollers, my tech were glad when we bought laptops, back in the day I left was 17 years ago.

Lately have hard time remember my days in the military and no less my school is having reunion and thinking why I should go, I can't think any school mates.
Dam I don't have Alzheimer's like my father had, which really scares me now that I am getting older.
