I never realized how import a horn was until it stopped working. Where do I start looking? It's a 2010.
I the manual it says, under the hood relay number 34 is the horn. I tried a different relay and nothing happened.
Is it right in the steering wheel?
I only have the wiring for a 2007 but if you have a key FOB does the horn sound if you press that feature on the FOB ??…there is a fuse (#2 horn/alt sense) so check that…don’t know your electrical diagnostic skills so I’ll stop here…if the horn sounds with the FOB but not at the steering wheel it’s not the horn or the horn ground.
Typically relays don't go bad. If the circuit or pinout is different for the relays, you can do damage. You can jump the contacts and see if you have 12vdc on the horn.
If the horn doesn’t sound with the FOB it can now be either the horn or the horn ground or the “control” side of the horn circuit which could be most likely the horn membrane in the steering wheel…if you have some electrical skills you can try jumping pins 87 and 30 at the relay…this is the load side of the relay…also with a 12 volt test light you will always see 2 terminals of the relay which should light with the test light…actually a C5 owner is bringing his C5 to me this week for the same horn issue and a few others…check that fuse !!..if this diagnosis may be a little over your head ANY repair shop should be able to diagnose this simple circuit…if they can’t they shouldn’t be working on cars !!!
This may sound weird but does it work when the car is cold and been sitting? Mine stops working when the fuse box under the hood gets hot along with the high beams. Let it sit overnight and it works again. There was a recall for my year but it shows mine was already done on Chevys site.
Mine recently had the exact same issue. Horn worked fine one day, then it just stopped. I checked the fuses, relays, and the ground on the frame (I think it's G102), and everything was fine. I finally took the passenger side fender liner off while installing some fog light bulbs and just unplugged the horn and plugged it back in. It works again... for now.
I took off the inner finder and checked all the horn connections. All were good.
When I press the horn button on the steering wheel, there is a clicking sound coming from horn relay. I replaced the repay and it did the same thing.
I would apply power and a ground directly to the horn and see if it works…”checking” the connections accomplishes nothing unfortunately if you mean a visual inspection !!
