Do you guys use a spreader tool when performing this repair? I saw a video where someone used a special spreader tool when getting the knuckle off. Thanks
it's hit or miss with the LCA balljoint. I don't have the special tool but wish I did a few times. Generall I can losen the nut on the balljoint, load the hub with the weight of the car, then tap it with a hammer and it will pop loose

I use a two arm wheel puller. I make sure to protect the Allen head socket on the ball joint. I tighten the wheel puller snugly and let it sit. About 30 seconds latter I hear it crack loose.
It works every time. In fact I removed a front lower control arm yesterday.
Although it is out of the car this is the way I do it.
If you use a sacrificial nut on the ball joint threads you can use an air hammer to pop them loose as well. I’ve used the nut off the ball joint itself and had to run a tap down it to be able to reuse it. Not a great idea.
I found another way to crack loose the rear lower ball joint this afternoon.
I was struggling to remove the half shaft. The passenger side fell out but the drivers side was stuck.
I decided to try to crack the lower ball joint loose.
There is a small distance between the top of ball joint thread and the half shaft CV joint. I filled that space with a bicycle tire removal tool.
I then unscrewed the ball joint nut which hit the tire tool. I kept unscrewing the nut and let it sit for a few seconds. Repeat, once or twice, and it cracked loose. I was surprised it was so easy and that the ball joint stud did not spin with the nut.
