I have 2 engines torn down, I know about the difference in the 3 vs 1 bolt cam gear, but didn't expect different rods. I see LS2 rods advertised as "forged" but always thought they were Powdered Metal like the Ls1/ls6 rods.
Anyway, does anyone know why 2006 and 2007 would have different rods? I can get photos, but the 2006 has numbers printed on the surface, while the 2007 rods have stamping in the metal. Pistons look the same
Would you believe forged powdered metal maybe? I know they're not forged in the truest sense of the word. I do seem to remember there being pressed or full floating with the piston pins. Maybe check with the guys on LS1 Tech. They're pretty sharp. Generation IV Internal Engine - LS1TECH - Camaro and Firebird Forum Discussion

The later rods are made by GKN, and there is lots of material where they claim their “forged” powder is as strong as an actual forging. Clearly I don’t agree. Anyway instead of mixing the 2 versions I ordered a used GKN rod on ebay to replace the one I almost melted (spun bearing)
