I had a squeak, that I couldn’t really identify. I sprayed a water stream from a squirt bottle on the belt and the squeak went away for about 30 seconds. I had read this is an easy way to diagnose a worn serpentine belt.
So I just replaced it, spun all the pulleys that I could, no squeaking, grinding. Nothing to dictate I needed to replace any pulleys.
Anyhow, new belt on, still have the squeaking noise! Upon inspection further, it seems to be coming from the harmonic balancer. I have read these are notorious for going bad in corvettes. 2005 base here.
I absolutely dread this needs replacing after watching a few videos. I do all my own work, but damn this looks quite involved!
Can anyone tell if this is the case from the video below? It may not show in the video, but it has a slight wobble 😞
thank you
I just bought the Summit SFI rated 25% underdrive balancer for mine, along with 2 new belts About $250 for everything I think. Due to the side effects from my Pfizer vax I have to pay to get it done, but yeah, I watched the videos too and it would probably take me a week now to get this done if I even attempted it.
I am wondering if anyone can tell from my video if it indeed the balancer. I found it odd that the sqeal went away when i shot water on the inside of the belt with the engine on. To me, this indicated a belt issue, not a pulley of some sort.
I suppose it could be the lower AC belt...
