So I am looking at installation of many harmonic balancers and noticed the Klowny video on YouTube. He used this “Friction Washer” at the end of the Harmonic balancer.
my question is if I need this washer at all for the install as I have noticed I cannot find the same washer besides that one I have posted.
Those came out in approx 2010, wasn’t oem at least on early c6’s.
I’ve never used one, but I pin my cranks . Good insurance but i bet few cars have them
No, the diamond washer was added during the first year of production (MY2005) to address loose balancers. Symptomatic customer cars got the washer retrofitted under a TSB.
My 2006 came with the washer from the factory. All the cars got them.

I would use the washer. There isn't anything in principle that makes it less necessary with an ARP bolt or a Summit balancer.
The only thing that would change would be keying/pinning the crank.
Note there's a new-style washer that comes without the rubber retainer. It just looks like a circular shim with a single keyway notch. Works the same way as the original.
