Today, for the first time, my C6 LS3 acted like it had a fuel problem. It starts fine, runs fine, but twice today, at different time, it acts like it is getting no (or little fuel) doesn't turn off, but sputters for about 15-20 seconds and then returns to normal. The car is a 09 automatic Z51, otherwise its bone stock.
I am thinking its not getting the proper about of fuel but need some help or advise on how to proceed.
I had a new fuel pump put in about 8 months ago and I understand that the fuel filter is located INSIDE the tanks itself. I am not about to have someone drop the tanks again. I am assuming the filter is good since the pump is good/new.
I am thinking the next step would be the fuel rails. Would a pressure test on the rails show me if there is a problem?? Where should the gauge be located, before the rails or on the rails themselves?
This 30K car is fast becoming a 50k car with all the problems I have had with it.
Your concern can be fuel pressure related but can be some other things as well…if you want you can hook up a fuel pressure gauge and monitor the pressure on the rails…if pressure is steady it’s not the pump…when was the last time your MAF sensor or throttle body were cleaned ??…this should be something you should do as preventive maintenance every year or two…I’m moving your thread over to the Tech section.
With problems like yours, you have to perform the diagnostic work right at the time when the symptoms arise to have any hope of a successful diagnosis. Trying to make that happen will be a frustrating experience. That's what happens when you take your car to the shop and they report that they couldn't duplicate the problem. You end up paying for their time but made no progress with the problem. I doubt that this problem is doing any damage to your car, so you might just have to let this problem get worse with time so it will be easier to diagnose.
