I have been fighting this for a few days. I simply cannot remove the power steering pump. 2005 base. I got the one high pressure line removed from the steering column near drivers wheel.
I used a crow's foot flared wrench to loosen the high pressure hose on the steering pump itself.I cannot turn it, there is zero room to make even an either of a turn with my crows foot, I might try to grind it down or something.
Anyhow, alternator removed, PS resevoir removed, all bolts holding PS bracket out, am loosening the ABS module. I cannot get this thing out.
First I need to get the bottom line off.
Please help, my car has been sitting for over a week now. very frustrated!

Thank you.
I recommend a flare nut crowfoot. Use extensions and come up from below the car.

I have a flare nut, it cracked it loose, but somehow, I cannot turn the nut further, the bracket it seems is in the way, with extensions, no matter what angle.

It's been a while so I'm going from memory, but I believe that by taking the wheel off you can gain easier access to some of the fittings on the pump.

Yeah I have a vague memory of the same, or even having to drill a hole in the pulley. I believe turn one do a pulley with holes in it already, partly for weight partly for removal of pump.
I removed the power steering pump from my 05 with the line still attached to the pump. I just put it all back together last week from doing my harmonic balancer replacement.

I suspect you're remembering the C5 pulley. The C6 pulley has an open spoke design.
Well, i finally got the pump off. The pump wasn't that bad, it was the damn high pressure line nut way at the bottom. I ended up grinding the crap out of a 16mm crow's foot flare wrench, opposite the jaws to allow it to turn in the tight space. finally got it. and the pump is out.
Next step is installing new pulley on new pump this weekend, with new high pressure line. Hopefully an easier task!

Thanks everyone!
Good to hear. Some wrenches are bulkier than others. For what it's worth to anybody else doing this job, the Snap-On FRHM16 in the photo above works without alteration.
Question, did you remove the pump before attempting to remove the hard line? I believe there's 3 bolts you remove through the pulley (loosen abs unit first to get more room), which lets the actual pump come off the bracket/block, then from there you have room to get the crowsfoot on that bottom hardline. Otherwise yes, if the pumps still bolted to the car it's going to drive you insane. You can see here when I did mine the pumps still attached via hardline, but I got the bracket out of the way too giving *much* more room to get that PITA hardline bolt off.
No, I did not attempt to remove the pump from the bracket. Dangit, I wish I had done that first!
Thank you, next time (hopefully not ever!)
Good to know, makes sense.
