Either of these options will work. Reach out to RPM or someone who works on these to get the best set up. The only downside you are going to have is cost and availability. They stopped making the diffs years ago so finding one is going to be a chore if they dont have one in stock. Once you find one, you will probably pay a good amount for it (btw, if you find one used, you will want to send it to a shop to have it looked at\worked over).
That is not what breaks on a 05. The pinion breaks out of them. You need to upgrade it to a 06 housing and then buy the adapter for the transmission. That will solve your issues.
