I just bought my first corvette Sunday and I noticed that the transmission aggressively downshifts sometime when I ease off the throttle kind of like a jerking way. I’ve never driven a car with a bad transmission so it could be called a slip I guess? I took it to a local transmission shop and they scanned it for transmission codes and there wasn’t any showing. I haven’t used the paddle shifter because I’m scared I’ll damage the trans even more. But it does the same thing in S mode as it does in D. Also, I’m having an electrical issue where sometimes I will lose all my radio presets and the radio will switch back and forth to military time and my seat memory will get lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated
You need to focus on why you are losing intermittent power. The auto transmission is electronically controlled and also has a "learn" capability to better identify how you drive and when to perform shift points based on your driving style. You are probably losing and going through the relearn process with the auto trans due to the loss of battery power, which is also affecting your other concerns.
Get this fixed to see if the auto trans issue resolves itself once power is stabilized. If you have a multimeter (DVOM), check your battery voltage and alternator output. If your battery is below 12.5v be sure to charge it. Give us as much information as you can about these power issues so we may better assist you.
Because of electronically controlled transmissions, my 1996 T-Bird does the same thing with the auto trans each time I disconnect & reconnect the battery.
I changed my battery and am no longer having electrical issues, but the transmission is still doing the same. an example would be say i press the gas and don't let off all the way to 60mph. If I take my foot completely off the gas pedal after reaching 60 and let the car "coast" all the way down to say like 20 it doesn't downshift aggressively or act like it gets lost on what gear it wants to get in. But, If i keep my foot on the gas all the way to 60 and then instead of taking my foot all the way off the gas pedal i keep it on and just ease off the pedal a little that is when it starts acting up. Is this what a transmission slipping feels like?, because when I am accelerating it goes through every gear just fine. I've read on the message board about "flairs" or "trouble sliding into 5th" could this be that? Maybe I just need to get the TCM reset or something.
Replacing the battery is a good move, if that was the origination of your power problems. Time will tell. The C6 electronics are very sensitive to power fluctuations.
The only information you have supplied on the car is that you are a new owner of a 2008 A6 Corvette that is experiencing perceived problems with shift points. This could be as simple as a maintenance item, for example, has the transmission been serviced with a fluid and filter change? If so, when and at what mileage and what is the current mileage on the car.
Do you have an owners manual with the maintenance schedule and has that be followed (attached). What is the condition of the spark plugs, wires and coils? Check each of these as intermittent problems with misfire can feel like a transmission shift problem.
Do an interweb search for Corvette clubs in your area of AL. They would be invaluable to you for information and locations of reliable service centers that have experience with the Corvette.
Good luck and be sure to update us with as much pertinent information as you can provide on any other issues you identify during your time with the car.
