I’m looking to go to a more aggressive diff gear in my 2010 C6 A6, can I use a 3:42 diff from a manual trans C6 ? Thanks
You'd get better performance gains by swapping to a higher stall TC. I'd recommend a Yank 3200 or 3600. It's been shown that there is minimal, if any, difference in 1/4 mile times between a 2.56 and 3.42 gears, but a significant difference between a stock and higher stall TC. The bonus is that fuel consumption remains unchanged for most driving.

It's true what's been said. Expressed purely in numbers not much quicker with gears but seat of the pants feeling from any acceleration is uncomparable with 2.56 or 2.73. Even that alone can be a reason to change as in my case.
