Default C6 Shift Cable Bushings

I know this subject has been beat to death, but I have some questions that maybe the Forum can answer. For those who have done this before how easy is it to break the cable when replacing the front bushings? And also if the old bushing is still intact what is the easiest way to remove it? Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

I just did this job on my A6 2010 GS when I replaced my shifter. I was concerned about breaking the cable but it turned out not to be a problem. Removing the old bushing was by far the hardest part of the job. I used a razor knife and carved it out.

The cable breaks at the retention bracket when it is pulled up too far to access the bushing at the cable attachment to the shifter. Just be careful to NOT pull the cable up too far. If the bushing has failed, you should be able to use a pick to remove the bushing and any pieces that remain in the housing.

Good luck.
