Default Intermittent Slave Cylinder Issue

Manual swapped over from a 6l80, car has been fine up until recently. Brand new OE master and slave paired with a spec stage 3 clutch.

The issue is usually when shifting to 3rd or from 3rd to 4th. This is a fresh t56 with carbon synchros and a billet everything. I found out driving it around today that the clutch gets pretty noisy when it decides to lock me out of gear or grind the gears. Interestingly when it locks me out it's actually every gear. I have to pump the pedal until the noise goes away and it shifts fine.

My assumption is the master or slave. The car has been finished for 3 weeks now, everything is fresh and new. What would cause it to have this intermittent noise and lock out?

It sounds to me like part of the friction plates have come loose from the clutch plate. Unfortunately, that is not a simple theory to verify.

Raised the car and there is no loose fluid. It seems like the slave is almost reacting too slow vs the pedal. I let the clutch out in neutral and gave the shifter a little pressure towards 3rd sitting in the driveway and it hit the wall obviously, but while holding that pressure and putting the clutch in it took a considerable amount of time to slide into gear. I don't see anything in the bellhousing either.

Hoping for more input before I tear this thing apart again.

The amount of glitter after maybe 150 miles might tell another story.

Could be air in the system. Not sure what the above pic is of though.

I have a remote bleeder and bled that thing over and over again, I have it torn apart, I'll get under the bellhousing today. Slave still looks brand new.

The pic I posted above was the transmission fluid.

Update. Flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate look good, however I did notice that the slave was dragging on the splines on the torque tube. I'll be tearing into the transmission tonight to look at 3/4 to be safe.

Not sure if your symptoms point to this but the stock slave has a plastic retainer sleeve that can fail and cause problems.

there are billet options that will prevent this. My favorite is QurterMaster’s as it is high quality and affordable.

Well, the 3/4 assembly looks brand new except the new 3rd gear I put in is a little beat up, nothing crazy. However, I did notice this splined washer is not flush with the cone. Not sure if that's critical.

My conclusion is either the master isn't strong enough for the pressure plate, my slave jams up on the shaft, or I need to replace both with higher quality units. Any input would be appreciated.

Take a look at the retainer on your slave. They fail and can jam or seize.

The retainer looked fine, but, I went ahead and bought ticks retainer and adjustable master. I'll keep this thread updated in case anyone else has this issue in the future. I have a feeling that the stock slave needs more fluid travel for the stage 3 clutch. I'll be measuring the assembly again for a shim. Last time it was within not needing one, but ill triple check this time around.

A final update to this thread for anyone in the future having a similar issue.

I've replaced the master cylinder with an upgraded tick master, a billet slave retainer, added a shim to close the gap (I was around .02 out of spec), now using pennzoil synchromesh fluid in the transmission vs the dex 3. Transmission is buttery smooth and no engagement/disengagement issues whatsoever.
