Need some Automatic Shifter Knob Help
Probably a dumb question but does anyone know of any aftermarket manufacturers that make a shift **** for an Automatic C6 Coupe?
On my car the silver "cap" thing on top broke and now that is what holds the front "trigger" in place and trying to get the car in gear is a pain in the rump because that cap keeps sliding off and the trigger falls out onto the floor and today I was trying to get out of the CVS parking lot and some stupid woman was trying to turn in to the parking lot and kept coming and I had to quickly get the car in reverse so she would not rip the drivers front corner off my car and thank GOD I got the car into Reverse fast (then the whole shifter **** fell apart onto the floor as usual) but its driving me insane I need to fix it, and gluing the silver cap on is NOT what I would consider a FIX..... DOOKIE RIGGED yes, FIXED, no.
GM does not sell these anymore and aftermarket prices in the 325 to 600 plus dollars just seems nuts.....
I ordered one that LOOKED like it from amazon and of course they said it would fit but did it, NOT by a long shot.
So does anyone know of any aftermarket Automatic shifter ***** that work with the C6? Mine is a 2006 but I think they were all the same through those years.
Thanks
J

I have an extra shift **** but as you can see the plastic cap is missing a leg. I guess this is your issue also? If you can use it or any of the parts you can have it for free. Just a couple bucks to ship I think?

Looks like there is a difference between 2006-2007 as they are listed separately from 2008-2013.

YES mine was all broken and beat up and the prices to replace the stock one I'm sorry but for just a pile of junk plastic is just a big fat NO!
So I would search and get excited seeing the price for a **** for 55-65 bucks and it turns out its just for the leather wrapping of your own **** or some carbon fiber sticker thing.
ABSOLUTELY NOT! Me like 9000000% of the planet want a DEAL for stuff, and we all know, you get what you pay for, but for like 350-419 for a new junk plastic **** is a big fat hell to the no!
Once in a while its a nice win that you pay very little and actually get a semi decent part in return. This is one of those times. This is a cast aluminum piece, not a fancy billet yadda yadda but compared to the stock junk plastic, its a god send. And if I need a rag in the summer so I dont burn my hands, so be it.
There is a video of some guy installing this exact **** on his I think 2007 or 2008 corvette convertible. I just walked through the steps he laid out in his video and it worked perfectly. Well the first install attempt I guess I installed it too far down, and the reverse lock out was not working, could go from park to any gear I wanted to without pushing the button, so I released the 3 set screws, then tightened them up again making sure the reverse lock out was working. PERFECT! So a minor issue but simple to resolve and it looks good. Feels solid in my hand not flimsy plastic, there is no plastic on or in this **** at all, everything is metal. Spring is nice and sturdy and strong but not going to break a nail, the plunger is chrome steel, the outside is aluminum with some metal chrome trim rings x 2 and a black trim ring in-between the 2 chrome trim rings. For 16.66 dollars how can you beat it? Also gave me a chance to get into the 2 boots and clean the gunk out of them from puppy hair or one of my fur coats hair pushed down in the leather boot grooves etc.
So thank you all, I really appreciate the help.
This one was a total win win win all around. This saved me a bare minimum of 233.34 dollars from the 250 dollar one, and others were 349 to 419 dollars so this was a great win! I am so happy no more having to put that plastic junk together in a parking lot to get the car to move.
Hope you all have a great weekend
J
