I’m currently trying to fix this code that popped up for the second time . The first time it appeared I replaced the fuel cap and the code disappeared for about a month and a half so I might have to replace the canister purge contro valve because that’s what the fix finder report recommended but I have no idea where to locate it and I tried to look it up on YouTube but I can’t find anything on it only the vent solenoid .
The P0442 is a “small leak detected” but sometimes it’s not always a leak but can be a faulty fuel tank pressure sensor which may be reporting an incorrect voltage back to the ECM so DON’T go by what this report says…if you don’t possess a bidirectional scan tool where you command the EVAP vent valve closed or the purge valve open and a smoke machine if it is an actual leak your chances of fixing this is pretty slim without shotgunning a bunch of parts…find a diagnostic shop in your area because they have the knowledge and equipment to diagnose this properly…dealerships and general repair shops are poor at this…my 2008 purge valve location below…you can find a purge valve on any car because one line always goes to the intake manifold and it is a 2 wire sensor…BTW was the fuel cap you replaced OEM or aftermarket ??…these aftermarket are JUNK so it may a bad gas cap after all…if you have an aftermarket I’d go to your local GM dealer and buy one…they shouldn’t be very expensive.

yes I did purchase a OEM gas cap it’s weird because when I replaced it the code disappeared but then came back on after a month . Do you know where I can find the fuel tank sensor ?
Instead of just throwing parts at the car take it to get properly diagnosed…you’ll be wasting time and money if you don’t…if it’s a line that is leaking you’ll never find it and you could have gotten a bad cap even if OEM.
