So I just installed a powermaster 9509 starter because my oem one took a 💩. Now, when I turn the car on (foot off clutch) it sounds like the fuel pump just sticks on (constant priming) and won’t turn off.
It’s also much louder for some reason and even sounds like it’s coming from further up the car on the driver side as opposed to coming from the rear. When I try to crank it nothing happens. Service fuel system also pops up.
This makes no sense at all.. any help whatsoever is greatly appreciated! I have no idea where to start.
I've had this happen several times but not on my vette (still original). Every time it's happened it has been a defective brand new starter. That noise you are hearing that sounds like a fuel pump could be your starter. I don't think I've ever received a properly functioning new starter the first time.

I wouldn’t think the starter would be making a noise with just me hitting the button? I wasn’t trying to crank it (however nothing happens when I do)
these are really the only 2 possibilities. I'm pretty sure this particular starter bolts right up after being clocked.
it does bolt right up.. i pulled fuses for starter and both fuel pumps and it still makes the noise. i swear it sounds like a fuel pump priming and standing outside the car i believe it’s coming from rear driver tire area. i don’t understand how it would be fuel pump if fuses were pulled though
Are your sure its the fuel pump, and not the starter bendex not retracting the gear enough to clear the flywheel gear ring.
So on that note, if you still have the old starter, double check the amount that its gear is withdraw back in the starter, against the new starter.
My guess, the new starter is not drawing the gear back in deep enough like the old starter, and why it not clearing the flywheel gear to disengage correctly.
As for C6 starters, have yet to see one that the motor can not be rebuilt, or even needs to be rebuilt, and isntead just need the solenoid replace on it for around $20 instead.

i do believe it is the aux pump, it sounds like a pump priming and it’s coming from rear driver tire. i got under the car to look at starter and the gear wasn’t turning at all. but when i do hit clutch it doesn’t try to crank either way..
it can’t be the starter causing the sound it has to be the fuel pump but i have no idea how it’s still doing it when fuses are pulled
