Hi,
I am looking for some insight into my LS2 (CTS V), please. I'm posting here because the participation is higher than Cadillac forum.
2006 LS2, 200K miles. Just replaced power steering rack and high-pressure line. I drove the car for 500 miles with no power steering on a dry pump, as spare car was also out of service. Anyway, got new rack, alignment and after 100 miles, there is a super loud ticking coming from the front of the engine. The weird thing is that the ticking is only present when the wheels are straight and turned right. Once the wheels start to go from straight to left, the noise rapidly goes away. The ticking is really loud and sounds almost like something is rubbing against the radiator fan, which is what I thought it weas at first, but the ticking is present at first start up when the fans are not running. The noise is present at idle and driving and does not seem to be affected too much by engine speed.
Any experience.
I was thinking at first timing tensioner is bad, but now I am thinking bad bearing on the PS pump, or idler tensioner.

Thanks,
The pump and tensioner don't know the difference between turning left and right. I would suspect the rack, or something loose in the linkage/suspension.

Would the suspension tick at idle during stand still?
Are you saying it makes the noise while turning to the right, or whenever the wheels are pointed right, even with your hands off the wheel?
Does the steering wheel shake around when this happens?
You should be able to poke around with an improvised stethoscope (e.g. long screwdriver) to figure out which part is making the noise.
It would be interesting to see a video.
The steering wheel does not shake. The ticking occurs whenever the wheels are pointed straight and continues as I turn the wheel to the right. When I turn the wheels left, the ticking stops.
I get absolutely no feedback through the steering wheel. So far, the engine works fine, and acceleration is not compromised.
